About the Founder
Born and raised in Southern California, Bret McGaughey graduated from Laguna Beach High School in 2008. After playing one year at the NCAA Division II level, he transferred to play Division I golf at Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania, graduating in 2012 with a B.A. in Economics, and Minors in Business and Real Estate while playing in 20+ collegiate golf tournaments over course of his collegiate career. During college, he became involved with Athletes In Action - staffing multiple college athlete camps in Fort Collins, Colorado, and operating as a Graduate Assistant at University of California, Irvine and Concordia University, Irvine - where he coached and mentored college athletes and helped them develop the skills and mindset to become successful, well-rounded individuals and leaders. In 2015, he obtained an M.A. in Sports Management from Long Beach State and during that program he worked for both Angels Baseball in Corporate Sponsorships and the TGR Foundation (formerly the Tiger Woods Foundation) in Corporate Partnerships and Events. In 2020, he obtained a Juris Doctor from Western State College of Law in Irvine, California, and was subsequently admitted to the California Bar in early 2021. Since that time, he has been practicing law at Buckner, Robinson & Mirkovich as part of their real estate, finance and corporate practice groups. He formed Platform Sports Management in 2024 to combine his passion, experience and expertise to advantage the next generation of athletes in college and professional sports.
